Mehrangarh Fort

Rising 125 metres above Jodhpur's old city, Mehrangarh Fort is one of India's most formidable medieval fortresses. Built in 1459 AD by Rao Jodha, the fort's sandstone walls — in places 6 metres thick — have never been breached by an enemy.

Inside, seven successive gates lead through a series of palaces, each more ornate than the last: Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, and Zenana Deodi. The museum holds an extraordinary collection of Rajput armoury, royal palanquins, and Jodhpur miniature paintings. The panoramic view from the ramparts across the blue city is among the finest vistas in all of Rajasthan.
