Kalbelia is the dance tradition of the Sapera community — Rajasthan's nomadic snake charmers — and was inscribed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. The dancers move with extraordinary precision and fluidity, their black embroidered skirts spinning in widening circles as the tempo of the pungi and dholak rises.
A performance in a 450-year-old haveli courtyard — the setting these traditions were created for — is a fundamentally different experience to the staged cultural shows at larger hotels. The acoustics of the enclosed courtyard carry the music differently; the carved stone archways frame the performance in a way no purpose-built venue can.
The experience is arranged on request and requires 48 hours advance notice to coordinate with the performers. It can be set up as a standalone evening experience or combined with a courtyard dinner.
